Shine on award

February 26, 2013

Apparently to my astonishment after I fed my fruit bat ‘Lucifer’ today, I realised that the respected ‘Misschocobo’ has been so kind enough to deem me of all people ‘shine worthy’ & therefore has recently nominated my blog ‘insaneowl’ for the ‘Shine on Award’.

It is very humbling to be acknowledged & nominated by such a talented blogger. Her work is very enchanting as well as novel in content & therefore I would implore all my readers to check out her blog ‘Before I Forget’ at http://beforeiforget13.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/shine-on-award/

The Shine On Award Rules:

  • Link back to the blogger who nominated you.
  • Post the badge on your blog.
  • Answer the questions posed to you.
  • Nominate five bloggers who shine a little light in your day and be sure to notify them.
  • Issue some questions you’d like them to answer

My Answers:

  1. Do you have any pets? Tell me about them!

This would be a most intriguing answer to reveal for it is true that I have pets….lots of them & at times they seem more sensible than I am. I have been literally adopted by two cats, a female named ‘Lopez’ & a male named ‘Brownie’ both who unlike me have not taken the question of population control quite seriously. I also am the keeper of a centipede mound at the back of my compounds whose residents have always loved me & have proven to be very good at scaring goons away. Then there is of course ‘Lucifer’ my fruit bat with whom I spend a lot of leisurely hours at night either feeding him, reading or scaring the living daylights out of night time prowlers.

2.If you could be a super hero, what power would you have & what would your name be?

If I had to be a super hero, I’m quite sure that my power would be something that I happen to already possess….the power to make any animal love me, be it the ones who walk on hundred legs or the ones that walk on two legs (the latter are more dangerous). That way I could sort of ‘tame’ the entire world with love (sigh). Invariably I figure my name would be ‘The Loving Tamer’.

3.What’s your favourite pizza topping?

Barbeque chicken would definitely be my favourite pizza topping only for one reason. You see, in my neighbourhood pizza joint, their barbeque chicken is always not cleaned properly & so smells of chlorine. The moment I point it out to them, they kindly offer me two free medium sized pizzas of my choice just so long as I do not complain to the health department. Oh yes…..I love barbeque chicken piece toppings.

4.What was your last dream about?

The issue is I rarely sleep as I spend most of my waking life either teaching, reading or writing. I therefore sleep once a week, every Friday. Last Friday’s dream was a nightmare which involved me getting married to a person who hated reading & cats. The whole dream sequence was centred around me trying various excuses to leave the church which all turned out to be in vain.

5.What is your favourite saying/quote/lyric?

I find strength in one particular song’s lyrics especially when my world is turned upside down. I find my courage to go on with what I am doing when the following words come to my mind :

“This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest.”

A part of the lyrics of the song, ‘The Impossible dream’ from the movie ‘The Man Of La Mancha’

My Questions:

  1. Which was the book that changed the way you looked at the world & why?
  2. When it was the time that you were hurt by someone whom you thought would never hurt you?
  3. Why do you think there is so much of pain in the world?
  4. Who has been the most misunderstood personality of the 21st century & why?
  5. Where do you go to find peace of mind?

  1. You are too kind. Thank you for the nomination. I was reading your responses when I saw you had nominated me. I love your whimsy and the way you express it. I will consider your questions carefully. They are not easy. However, number one can be answered immediately: To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s sounds simple, but I realized from that book that there were good guys and bad guys in this world and I wanted to be one of the good guys. All joy and again thank you. HF

  2. Thank you – that is so sweet of you!
