The Human Heart

My dear heart you have wronged me today
by not allowing me to count the sand grains
of my time I spent loving him.

Instead, you made me ride on a white horse of truth
towards the emptiness of my soul – without my lover
I am lost like an Arab in the desert of lost souls.

I raised my hands to you dear red heart but you rejected me
and my proposal – how can the poet stay alive with scorpion
stings as food to eat instead of love’s gentle embrace.

I ponder upon my grief in the wilderness
of soft tender kisses which blow across the
barren lands to the terrain of my lover’s homeland.

Gentle kindred heart of mine do not forsake me for
without your moanings what shall I live for
in this graveyard of dead emotions.

Be cheerful little heart as your blood pumps my chest
to life for to be with you is like heaven – without you
the earth tempts to flatter the verse writer.

My poem is like a riddle which only you can comprehend
oh faithful heart, the words of my estranged lover stone me
to tears of blood that I don’t want to share.

Rescue my dearest heart from my mortal slumber
and awaken in me this cord of golden life which shall
never be snipped by the ladies with one eye to share.

Return to me my lover for whom my heart burns for
my ablutions will I put forward as a sacrifice to the heavens
but dearest heart please don’t desert me.
