BACK WITH A BANG: by Fiza Pathan

Fiza Pathan (2)Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my blog, Twitter, and Facebook, not forgetting my other social media sites-Google+, Linkedin, and Pinterest . I am also grateful to all the international organizations who have acknowledged my writings, and therefore today I can call myself a multiple award-winning author (21 awards and recognitions). Due to my busy schedule where writing and teaching was concerned, I was not regular on my blog. However, I’m now all sorted and ready to blog my views about literature.

I’ve got author/journalist/editor/poet interviews coming up along with articles on literature of all genres, the books I’m writing, book reviews, about the activities of my book club ‘BORN TO READ’ and also a whole section dedicated to ANYONE WHO WISHES TO PEN THEIR ESSAYS, STORIES OR POEMS ON MY BLOG (NO AGE BAR). If you are interested in writing or guest blogging on, send me a private message on my blog or Facebook and I’ll get back to you. If you are in the process of writing a book, send me a private message as stated before and let’s have your first interview and I’ll take you to your first readers.

Lots of surprises are also coming up for all book lovers and bloggers on, so keep in touch.

I’ve got a number of book reviews to type which I will do from the 26th of January, which in India is celebrated as Republic Day.

I’m right now reading five books at one time along with my hectic teaching schedule. The titles are as follows:

  1. Detours by Salil Tripathi
  2. Runaway Writers by Indu Balachandran
  3. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
  4. The Education Of Ivy Blake by Ellen Airgood
  5. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

At my book club in Mumbai, India, called ‘Born To Read’, my seniors are graduating one by one at a rapid pace and are starting to read a number of unabridged classics like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, Sense and Sensibility, Great Expectations, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, My Experiments With Truth and so on. It is amazing what these children are doing at ‘Born to Read’ which is just getting more interesting a job to do.

It was one of these students the other day who asked me why I did not become a librarian…after all I’m giving away my Yamaha to make more room for more books! If only I could tell her that today I was fantasizing whether I should give away the bed in my room also to make room for books! However, sometimes I have seen over the years that (at least in India) 85% of the population of librarians DO NOT like reading books at all; they hate the very sight of them which at times fascinates me.

To those of my fellow bloggers who liked my poetry, don’t worry for I’ll be starting to post my poems up for your critical analysis and judgement…and it’s going to be quite melodramatic as usual for lots has happened in my life since the last time I penned a poem on my blog. Many events and changes have come about in the world we live in, but there is one truth that shines clearly and critically…the world needs writers today, more than it has ever needed before!

We need to write and we need to read; we need to educate and we need to teach; but moreover, we need to be heard . . . all of us . . . every one of us . . . from the smallest to the supposedly greatest, we all need to be heard. In the words of Paul Auster:

“Surely it is an odd way to spend your life – sitting alone in a room with a pen in your hand, hour after hour, day after day, and year after year, struggling to put words on pieces of paper in order to give birth to what does not exist, except in your head. Why on earth would anyone want to do such a thing? The only answer I have ever been able to come up with is: because you have to, because you have no choice.”

Similarly, we all have to speak up, if not through our voice, then at least through the pen and computer keyboard.

On this note, I start in a very humble way – a compulsion for the benefit of truth and the written word. is back!
