Oh, My Valentine! Guest post by Mrunalini Basker

February 14, 2016

It’s the evening of 13th February and riding pillion with my husband I glimpse our local florist making a brisk sale of his roses as we pass him on our bike on the Juhu-Tara road. This reminder coupled with beach breeze mellowed my dil (heart), and brought back memories of our early days of marriage when we used to zoom in and out of another city. (Lovers and bike lovers know what I am talking about.)

With this dreamy feeling I sttrettchhedd…my arms to encompass both of our now expansive girths, and laid my head on his back. The stars were twinkling up in the sky and in my eyes, and I smiled blissfully to myself that the feeling is mutual. A long pause later with a hesitant voice, he said, ”Don’t hold me.” Miffed I released my loving clasp, feeling the stars fading into the evening shadows. A shrug and straightening of shoulders further bruised my pride; hurt I retreated into silence. Just then we reached a signal, he put out his hand and patted my knee.

The signal changed and we rode on. Sigh! After seventeen years of ups and downs, laughter and tears, two wonderful girls, my cupid still flies, even if it’s just for two seconds….Happy Valentine Day Friends!
