Burning Love

Why did you rob my heart old lover?

Why then did you break it into a million pieces
as if it meant nothing to you?

Dearest old love, you were the one to ignite the flame in me
but after setting me on fire-you left me for another
while I turned to ashes.

Still I carry the flaming torch of our love for all to see.

My flaming torch of fire has not been put out,
nor will it ever be put out for it’s the lamp of our old love
for all to see through my verses.

O my darling old lover, when will you realize
that no one can love you more than me?

I have burnt myself for your loving gaze and have
set alight my chest to feel the pain of separation.

More than any other thing in the world do I love you
yet you ignore my cries for help-for I need you
to quench the thirst of my flaming torch.

You have betrayed my love dearest old lover and have left me
in the dust to seek company with devils and demons.

Yet I do not curse you-nor do I wish to see you hurt
even though the fire in me burns the very core of my soul
to be separated from you.

Return to the lover poet dearest one if not for anything else
at least for the sake of the promises you once made
before the altar of God to me.

Even the Almighty has rejected my cries dearest old love
and so in frustration do I worship the Baal god of blood.

I pour my blood from my ruddy heart into the mouth of Baal
and he consumes it-the stench is killing my being
but to keep alive our love do I go on with the sacrifice.

I pray and plead at your feet dear old love,
have mercy on the one that you used to love –
my heart bleeds in the ashes of the tomb of our love,
open the doors and set me free.
