The Land of Buddha

I hate to say this but, the truth has to be told
I long to go back to the land of the Samurai
the place I left long ago.

Misty fog covers the land of the red dragon
and the mountains are plenty.
But my sage like family rests in the islands of the Tao sages
and that’s the place where I have to go.

We are practitioners of Zen Buddhism,
and we meditate for days on end to recover
the Buddha whom we need to retrieve.

To those holy lands does my heart belong
so fare well friends and poets
I’m off to the land of the wise.

I shall take with me my sword
and my nun’s robe
to the land where I belong.

I will take my mule and sing to myself
with the aid of my lute in gladness
for I’ll be coming home.

I long to see my teacher Lao Tzu,
and my friends of the silent hills
in their monk’s garb.

So here I go forward to the land of Confucius
the land where I belong.

The rice fields call to me while I lie at rest
and Shangri-La clouds my mind when I am asleep.

Shangri-La is the land of immortals
the land of the living Buddha
so away I go without turning back.

I will return to my homeland
the land of Yin and Yang.
