The Night Sky

By Fiza Pathan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m the one you saw in your dreams

And then you counted the stars I carried in my arms.

I poured those stars of blessings into your vacant eyes

So that they would glisten and twinkle every time I looked at you.

The night now is gone but the magic of darkness

Still tempts me to steal away from the light.

The sun holds no mysteries for me to pen in poetry

But the moon reminds me of a fair face I once saw to behold

Till eternity begets another eternity.

Starry night so pure and graceful

Like diamonds in the dark blanket of the night sky.

Listen to the shadows of the evening floating by my face

They all remember you when your imagination

Wished me in the tomb of the silver night.

Now the twilight calls out to the owl to nest in a tree of hopes for you

And to hoot and screech and peck at my heart

Which bleeds for you in the coldness of the dark hour.

I understand now that you only loved my image to embrace

While the spirit you trapped in the bottle like a genie.

So now, I forever more am trapped in a house of monads very wise

Who testify to the night and the shining stars that twinkle over the horizon.

Fiza, I liked this very much, though it is less joyous at the end. If I might make an observation. In this poem you went to a shorter line. I think it gave you more control of the language. Just food for thought. Best >KB
